Monday Sector Leaders: Consumer Products, Materials

The best performing sector as of midday Monday is the Consumer Products sector, higher by 0.7%. Within that group, Avon Products, Inc. (NYSE: AVP) and Mondelez International Inc (NASD: MDLZ) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 4.5% and 2.2%, respectively. Among consumer products ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the iShares U.S. Consumer Goods ETF (AMEX: IYK), which is up 0.7% on the day, and up 1.76% year-to-date. Avon Products, Inc., meanwhile, is down 14.48% year-to-date, and Mondelez International Inc, is down 2.28% year-to-date. Combined, AVP and MDLZ make up approximately 3.0% of the underlying holdings of IYK.

The next best performing sector is the Materials sector, higher by 0.7%. Among large Materials stocks, Allegheny Technologies, Inc (NYSE: ATI) and Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold (NYSE: FCX) are the most notable, showing a gain of 6.6% and 4.5%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLB), which is up 0.2% in midday trading, and up 1.59% on a year-to-date basis. Allegheny Technologies, Inc, meanwhile, is down 8.89% year-to-date, and Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold, is down 16.30% year-to-date. Combined, ATI and FCX make up approximately 4.0% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
