Utilities Crank Up the Income: 12 Companies Increasing Dividends

Wall Street gave income investors another heaping helping of dividend increases, sparked in part by a number of energy and utility companies. All told, 12 firms made it onto our Companies Increasing Dividends List this week. (Note: All dividend yields as of May 17.)

Companies Increasing DividendsWater services and electricity provider American States Water (AWR) raised its quarterly dividend 14% to 40.5 cents per share, payable Sept. 3 to shareholders of record as of Aug. 15.
AWR Dividend Yield: 3.01%

Helicopter services company Bristow Group (BRS) raised its quarterly dividend 25% to 25 cents per share, payable June 14 to shareholders of record as of May 31.
BRS Dividend Yield: 1.53%

Filtration systems and parts manufacturer Donaldson (DCI) raised its quarterly dividend 30% to 13 cents per share, payable June 21 to shareholders of record as of June 7.
DCI Dividend Yield: 1.39%

Minneapolis-based utility Xcel Energy (XEL) raised its quarterly dividend 3.7% to 28 cents per share, payable July 20 to shareholders of record as of June 20.
XEL Dividend Yield: 3.78%

Bakery products producer and distributor Flowers Foods (FLO) raised its quarterly dividend 5.5% to 11.25 cents per share, payable June 19 to shareholders of record as of June 5. FLO also approved a 3-for-2 split effective on the same payable and ex-dividend dates.
FLO Dividend Yield: 1.29%

Lafayette, La.-based bank holding company MidSouth Bancorp (MSL) raised its quarterly dividend 14% to 8 cents per share, payable July 1 to shareholders of record as of June 15.
MSL Dividend Yield: 2.18%

Oil and gas drilling components manufacture National-Oilwell Varco (NOV) doubled its quarterly dividend  to 26 cents per share, payable June 28 to shareholders of record as of on June 14.
NOV Dividend Yield: 1.51%

Storage systems and data management solutions provider NetApp (NTAP) initiated a dividend payout of 15 cents per share, payable July 23 to shareholders of record as of July 11.
NTAP Dividend Yield: 1.64%

Portland-based electric utility Portland General (POR) raised its quarterly dividend 1.8% to 27.5 cents per share, payable July 15 to shareholders of record as of June 25.
POR Dividend Yield: 3.56%

Financial holding company Umpqua Holdings (UMPQ) raised its quarterly dividend 50% to 15 cents per share, payable June 14 to shareholders of record as of May 31.
UMPQ Dividend Yield: 4.44%

Insurance holding company W.R. Berkley (WRB) raised its quarterly dividend 11% to 40 cents per share, payable July 2 to shareholders of record as of June 11.
WRB Dividend Yield: 0.98%

Entertainment giant Viacom (VIAB) raised its quarterly dividend 11% to 30 cents per share, payable July 1 to shareholders of record as of June 14.
VIAB Dividend Yield: 1.77%
