LOVER MAN: Maurice was caught out on Facebook [Cavendish]

Yvonne Gibney discovered the shocking betrayal when she saw photos of husband Maurice Gibney, 49, in his wedding attire, cuddling teacher Suzanne Prudhoe during a £45,000 ceremony at the British Embassey in Oman, Middle East in March 2013.

The mother-of-two, was left stunned when she discovered her mother-in-law had walked Gibney down the aisle and his stepdaughter was bridesmaid.

The couple, who met in Nigeria, had been married for 17 years with Gibney spending time in the Arab State as an oil contractor but nurse Yvonne uncovered the double life led by her hubby which even included two consecutive Christmas holidays spent with his new wife.

The love rat was handed a six month prison sentence suspended for two years by a judge at Wirral Magistrates Court.

Yvonne, 55, said: "I allowed myself to be manipulated and controlled by him.

"At the time of the bigamous wedding we had been married 17 years. I believed in our marriage and shared values, trust, love and respect for each other, a sense of morality.

"I loved him unconditionally and believed that love was reciprocated. I simply don't have the words to effectively convey the pain and hurt and sense of betrayal. I have to accept that my husband was unfaithful emotionally and physically for a prolonged period of time."

HEARTBROKEN: Yvonne was shocked to discover his husbands deceit [Cavendish]

The court heard how he spun a web of lies to keep his marriage away from his family and Miss Prudhoe, telling them that he divorced Yvonne and they had kept it secret for the sake of their children.

The pair agreed to divorce but in February 2013 Yvonne spotted comments about her husband on Facebook and traced them to Miss Prudhoe's profile.

Yvonne said: "A bigamous wedding is rare, as is getting married at the Embassy. I pretended I wanted to have a wedding there and I said a friend had attended the Prudhoe-Gibney wedding and she gave me all the details of the wedding and all the costings."

Yvonne told the court they had exchanged 11 emails, even discussing bed linen, the day before his bigamous wedding but when she tried to contact him on the big day, he claimed he was unwell.

She added that due to the stress, she was also diagnosed with depression and unable to work for two months telling the court: "I carried the guilt but I couldn't have prevented the harm caused to my children."

Along with ordering him to pay £85 costs and £80 victim surcharge, District Judge Michael Abelson told Gibney: "You initiated into a bigamous marriage, you knew precisely what you were doing at the time you did it, there was no hiding it.

"You can tell just how bitter she is about it, I'm not here to sentence you because she feels bitter I'm sentencing you for what you have done."
