The following accomplishments and events were reported by local schools:

•Members of the Oakland High chapter of the FFA recently participated in a state wide reading literacy program, Passing Literacy OnWard (P.L.O.W.), by visiting local elementary schools. Through PLOW, agricultural education students and FFA members share in a rewarding process by passing literacy competencies onward to the next generation.

Senior FFA members Sydney Alsup, Camden Edmonds, Jenny Faulkner, Jessica Hickson, Jacob Holt and Samantha Newman visited 41 elementary school classes at John Pittard and Kittrell elementary schools to read to students in grades K-6. Their purpose to was to cultivate a love of literacy in young students.

The purposes of PLOW align with many of the statewide literacy efforts implemented through regular education programs. The FFA is the largest national youth leadership organization with more than 610,000 members nationwide and 13,000 in Tennessee. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
