Miller High senior Monica Samaniego finished an undefeated season, winning the CIF State Girls Wrestling Championship at 131 pounds on Saturday evening in Visalia.

Samaniego (54-0) defeated defending state champion Erica Sotelo of Albany 3-1 in the final. Sotelo had defeated Samaniego in the semifinals 5-3 at state last year, when Samaniego finished fifth.

This year, Samaniego defeated Sotelo in a tournament before state.

“This is so phenomenal,” she said by phone. “Last year, I put a lot of pressure on myself.”

In other results, Yucca Valley’s Vanesa Contreras took fifth at 116, San Dimas’ Daishea Jaime was second at 121, Montclair’s Michele Alvarez was fourth at 160 and Oak Hills’ Corey Burton was seventh at 235.

Girls basketball

Bloomington Christian 59, Avalon 53 >> The top-seeded Ravens advanced to their first-ever CIF-SS girls basketball championship game, rallying from a 24-20 halftime deficit to win on the road in a Division 5A semifinal. Dynnah Buckner scored 23 points, Jordan Veal had 17 and Pshlene Bentley added 14 for Bloomington Christian.

Baseball

Aquinas 4, Moreno Valley 2 >> Justin Martinez had two hits while driving in two and Andrew Aguilera pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run, walking one and striking out eight for the season-opening victory for the Falcons, who play Friday at Indio at 3:15 p.m. in the Chino Tournament.

perris Citrus Hill 18, Jurupa Hills 4 >> Tyler Penix pitched five innings, allowing two hits while driving in two with two hits in Citrus Hill’s season-opening victory. Andrew Vasquez had three hits while driving in two for Citrus Hill, which plays host to Valley View on Monday.

Etiwanda 2, COVINA Northview 1 >> Grant Ashcraft pitched a no-hitter, allowing one unearned run while striking out three for the Eagles (1-0) in the first round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament. Kyle Isabel drove in a run forthe Eagles, who will play in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday.

Los Osos 4, Valencia 1 >> Kyle Robeniol pitched a complete-game five-hitter while Zack Cooper provided two hits in the Grizzlies’ season-opening victory in the first round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament. The Grizzlies play in the second round on Wednesday.

DOWNEY Warren 10-5, Serrano 6-0 >> Dayton Toop had two hits and an RBI while Wesley Townley drove in three in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader for Serrano. In the second game, Jarey Bechter had two hits for Serrano, which plays host to Redlands at 3:!5 p.m. on Tuesday in the San Gorgonio Tournament.

Ayala 4-11, Brea Olinda 1-2 >> Daniel Ramirez went 5 for 6 with a double and two RBIs to help the Bulldogs to the nonleague doubleheader sweep. In Game 2, Josh Bozoian, Matthew Acosta and Blake Slagle all homered. Bozoian had three hits and three RBIs, while Slagle and Acosta drove in two runs apiece. Ayala hosts Santa Fe Springs St. Paul on Thursday.

Softball

San Bernardino 8, St. Mary’s 2 >> San Bernardino’s Selena Cortez had two hits and drove in two while Mia Ojeda (1-1) pitched a complete-game two-hitter, allowing no earned runs, and striking out four. San Bernardino (1-0) will host Citrus Hill at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.
