KNEC airlifts KCSE exams to Turkana after bandit attack

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams have been airlifted to Turkana after bandits attacked and burnt a vehicle ferrying the papers to a school in the county.

Kenya National Examinations Council acting secretary Mr Joseph Kivilu said the exams were airlifted to Turkana from Wilson Airport in Nairobi on Tuesday at 6 am.

On Monday, bandits attacked and set ablaze a vehicle carrying the exams in the Lokori area.

The exams were for 25 candidates at Kapedo Mixed Secondary School.

A police officer was injured in the attack while eight other officers in the vehicle alongside civilians fled.

The incident came a day after four schools on the Turkana-Baringo counties border were closed due to frequent bandit attacks.

Kapedo Mixed Primary School headteacher Joseph Emoit Ekorukou was admitted to St Luke’s Hospital in Eldoret after he was attacked on Friday.

The 25 candidates at Kapedo Mixed Secondary School whose exam papers were burnt in the attack are currently under the protection of heavily armed General Service Unit personnel.
