Jaylen Brown, a McDonald’s All-American forward from Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.), was arrested and charged on Wednesday with two misdemeanor traffic violations then released on a $1,300 bond, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Brown, who averaged 28 points and 12 rebounds a game this season while leading Wheeler to the state AAAAAA championship, was arrested on Roswell Road in Marietta at 10:55 a.m. He was charged with a stop sign violation and for driving on a suspended license.

Wheeler coach Doug Lipscomb said that Brown would still play at the McDonald’s All American Game next Wednesday and the DICK’S Sporting Goods High School Nationals starting Thursday.

“All he did was get a ticket for a stop-sign violation,” Lipscomb told USA TODAY High School Sports. “He didn’t know he was driving on a suspended license. He was in an accident, they mailed the citation to his house, but his family had moved and didn’t receive the notice, so his license was suspended. It wasn’t that big a deal.”

In a statement, Douglas Freeland, director of the McDonald’s All American Games, said: “We are aware of the news surrounding Jaylen Brown. We’re currently looking into the matter.”

On Tuesday, Brown was named the state Player of the Year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. He was named the state  Gatorade Player of the Year last week.

Brown, ranked No. 2 in the ESPN 100, did not respond to a text message from USA TODAY High School Sports.
