Parliament to resume at 10am

The Parliament buildings remain under close surveillance on the morning after a military reservist was shot and killed and a large area of Ottawa was locked down.

Police are still piecing together what led to the fatal shooting Corporal Nathan Cirillo at the National War Memorial and the gunfire inside Parliament’s Hall of Honour.

As late as 9:30 last night — almost 12 hours after the first shots were fired — some M-P’s were still being evacuated.

One government source said the body of the shooter — identified Michael Zehaf Bibeau — was still lying in the hallway.

Early this morning, Ottawa police and the R-C-M-P lifted the downtown Ottawa safety perimeter and federal public servants were told they could return to their offices.

The hill will remain closed to visitors, however, and the Speaker has announced a full investigation into House of Commons security.

Some M-P’s have declared a firm resolve to come back to work today.

Industry Minister James Moore tweeted that Parliament will sit today at 10 a-m as scheduled.

Police say they do not yet know Bibeau’s motive, but Prime Minister Stephen Harper has already drawn a link between his brazen actions and international terrorism.
