LHP Onelki Garcia Promoted to Charlotte, Saladino Activated

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - LHP Onelki Garcia, who struck-out 24 batters over 17.2 innings pitched for the Double-A Birmingham Barons this season, was promoted to the Charlotte Knights today. In two other roster moves, infielder Tyler Saladino was activated off the DL and 1B/DH Dan Black was placed on the Temporary Inactive List. Charlotte's active roster is now set at 25 players.
Garcia, a native of Guantanamo, Cuba, was originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. The 25-year-old was claimed off waivers by the Chicago White Sox on November 20, 2014. In 13 games this season with the Barons, Garcia posted a 1-0 record with a 5.09 ERA.
Saladino was placed on the disabled list by the Knights back on April 23 (retroactive to April 22) . In 11 games with the team this season, the Oral Roberts University product posted a .289 batting average with six runs scored, one double, one triple, five stolen bases, and seven RBIs. Originally selected in the seventh round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft by the White Sox, Saladino compiled a .310 batting average with nine home runs, 16 doubles, four triples, seven stolen bases , and 43 RBIs last season for the Knights.
Black, 27, is hitting .324 (36-for-111) on the season with six home runs and 24 RBIs over 34 games with the Knights. He is tied for second in the International League this season in home runs, first in slugging percentage (.568), first in on-base percentage (.457), tied for first in walks (27), and 10th in batting average. He has homered once every 18.50 at-bats, which is tops in the IL this season.
The Knights will pay tribute to the Military tonight with a special Memorial Day game at BB&T Ballpark. Knights players will wear camouflage jerseys and gates open at 6:00 p.m. for tonight's 7:05 p.m. tilt against the Columbus Clippers (Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians).
