Kohl’s department stores announced Thursday that it will open 6 p.m. Thanksgiving, the same time Macy’s and Bon-Ton stores will begin offering deals for the biggest holiday shopping stretch of the year.

Stores will remain open through midnight Friday. Michigan has 43 Kohl’s stores, mainly in the Metro Detroit area.

“Kohl’s will be the most compelling shopping destination for the entire family this holiday season with our strong portfolio of sought-after national and private brands, our extensive online assortment and a deep list of exciting products that are new to Kohl’s this year,” Kevin Mansell, Kohl's chairman, chief executive officer and president, said in a statement.

Kohl’s did not release its Black Friday ad or detail any of the specific deals they will have during the shopping weekend. The Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based company did say it will launch a new app in time for the holidays to help shoppers keep track of their lists and the deals. It will also offer shoppers the ability to buy online and have items shipped to local stores for pickup.

Like Macy’s and Bon-Ton, Kohl’s is opening up two hours earlier than last year to meet customer demand. It’s a trend that has been building for the last few years.

In 2011, Toys R Us began eating into the holiday when it opened at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Last year, Kmart opened at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving and remained open until 11 p.m. on Black Friday. Target, Kohl’s and J.C. Penny all opened at 8 p.m. on the holiday last year.
