-- Financial-services company hopes to raise at least $250,000 at June 4 gala in support of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and GameChanger Charity --

MILWAUKEE, May 29, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northwestern Mutual offices from Southern California and Nevada are hosting "A Night to Fight Childhood Cancer," an inaugural gala and silent auction, on June 4 to raise funds for research and support to families battling childhood cancer. Money raised will benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and the GameChanger Charity.

Each year, more than 1,000 children between 0-14 years old are diagnosed with cancer in California.[1] "A Night to Fight Cancer" will celebrate the courageous children and their families who are fighting the daily battle against cancer, and highlight the impactful work of charities and hospitals that build hope and community awareness for the disease. Northwestern Mutual hopes to raise at least $250,000 through ticket sales and auction items to benefit the three organizations.

The gala will begin with a cocktail reception and silent auction at 6 p.m. at the UCLA Pauley Pavilion, followed by dinner and live entertainment from comedian and voice-actor Mark Schiff, house band Vanity Fair, and Resonance a Cappella, a UCLA-based co-ed a cappella group. Volvo Cars of North America and Windstream are sponsoring the VIP reception prior to the event. American Century and Interior Office Solutions (IOS) are event corporate partners.

Tickets are $500 each, or a table of 10 for $5,000. They can be purchased online at Night2Fight.com. For ticketing or sponsorship inquiries, contact Adam Baldwin at 213-243-7114 or adam.baldwin@nm.com

Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children from ages 1 to 19 in the U.S., and Northwestern Mutual is committed to accelerating the search for cures to childhood cancers and to providing support to families battling the disease. In total, Northwestern Mutual has raised more than $7 million to help ease the financial and emotional impacts of childhood cancer on families and children, more than 50,000 hours to help advance research for life-saving projects.

About Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $100 million toward fulfilling Alex's dream of finding a cure, funding over 475 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
