A woman is undergoing surgery in hospital after she was attacked while protecting her puppy from TWO Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Tracy Hills, 47, was mauled in a park for 15 minutes when she came to the aid of her one-year-old Beagle Finn.

She suffered bites to her arms, face, stomach and legs and may lose the feeling in one arm.

Her daughter Jade, 22, said: "It was horrific. My mum was just screaming for help.

"Doctors need to work out if her tendons have been permanently damaged. She will also need a skin graft and will be left with permanent scarring.

"It was touch and go whether Finn would survive, but he is at home recovering now.

"The attack on my mum lasted about 15 minutes, she said it is one of the worst things that has ever happened to her.

"I am a massive animal lover, I cannot even watch RSPCA appeals but these animals are clearly dangerous. I want to see them destroyed."

Tracy was walking Finn in a park near her home in Laindon, Essex, when he was attacked on Wednesday afternoon.

She grabbed the puppy after he sustained major wounds to his legs but the dogs then turned on her.

A jogger helped Tracy by hitting the Staffies with a branch. The dogs ran off and were found after a police helicopter was scrambled to the scene.

Tracy is still in hospital while Finn has returned home after undergoing emergency surgery at a vets.

Incredibly the animals responsible for the attack have been returned to their owner.

While the case is investigated by Essex police they will be muzzled and put on a lead in public.

PC Sam Creighton said: "Both animals were chipped and registered and the owner has been fully co-operative.

"The owner has been interviewed and we have made them aware that if there are any further incidents while our investigations are on-going the animals could be seized.

"We will be visiting Ms Hill when she returns home from hospital and taking statements from witnesses. Our enquiries are continuing."
