A good crowd gathered at McAllister last Sunday on a sunny and warm day to take a walk along the 'Green Line' in remembrance of Canon Mervyn McCullagh.

This was not the first time that a walk has been organised by the Lion's Club to remember a man who was very fondly regarded in the community, but this year there was an addition to the ritual walk.

An unveiling of a bench at the Weir on the River Slaney followed the Green Line walk. The bench was sponsored by the Baltinglass Lion's Club, and supported by the Baltinglass & District Active Retired, the Country Market and the parish.

Mary Ross, President of the Baltinglass Lion's Club, said a few words before she and Hilary McCullagh unveiled the bench.

Canon McCullagh was a great lover of nature and this seat looking out at the River Slaney is an apt way to remember him and his 'unique sense of humour'.
