Police have connected a Lancaster man with a string of alleged thefts from vehicles and home burglaries spanning three townships last year.

Jason D. Stewart, 40, of East Petersburg, faces burglary charges, among others, from police in Manheim, East Hempfield and West Hempfield townships in connection with incidents occurring between Sept. 20 and Sept. 24, 2014, according to a news release from Manheim Township police.

Officers with the Manheim and East Hempfield townships' police departments received "numerous reports" of residential burglaries and thefts from vehicles in the East Petersburg area, police said. Entry was made into the homes and vehicles through force and unlocked cars.

An investigation revealed Stewart had sold some of the items reported stolen at a local buy and sell shop, according to police.

Officers took Stewart into custody on Sept. 24, 2014 during an alleged attempted burglary in West Hempfield Township and took him to Lancaster County Prison, where he is being held.

Manheim Township detectives have charged Stewart with four counts of burglary and three counts of theft in connection with the incidents in the 1800 block of State Street, 5900 block of Lemon Street, 2500 block of Golden Drive and the 5900 block of Geneva Drive.

East Hempfield Township police have charged Stewart with seven counts of burglary, seven counts of theft by unlawful taking and three counts of theft from motor vehicles, according to online court records.

West Hempfield Township police have charged Stewart with one count each of burglary, theft by unlawful taking and criminal attempt burglary.

During the burglaries, according to police, Steward took a vehicle, wallets, purses, a camera and an unspecified amount of cash.
