Microsoft is currently seeking a senior software engineer, one that will focus on managing large amounts of information from games, apps and other types of variables. According to the publisher, gathering real world usage feedback from consumers will be critical to helping the Xbox One succeed.

According to the listing, “The Studios Technology Services group (STS) has the ambitious charter of building a BI and analytics platform that will serve a diverse audience and diverse set of needs across the entire Studios organization. This team sources a high volume and wide variety of data, from of game & app telemetry, sales & market data, service diagnostics, competitive analysis, and more.”

It may sound boring but information like this is pretty much fundamental to the working of a big-time publisher. “The impact of this platform is huge – it facilitates key customer experiences across Microsoft’s entire entertainment portfolio, and it provides Studios executives with the data and metrics needed to drive business decisions internally.

“It allows Studios to react to customer behavior and needs, allows title test teams to prioritize their efforts based on real world usage, and ultimately will be critical in helping Microsoft to win in the Entertainment Space.”

The qualifications required are extensive and involve years of experience in SQL, Big Data technologies like HDInsight and Cosmos and experience in building test infrastructure and automation. “You’ll help design, implement, and verify systems that can move huge Volumes of highly Variable data at high Velocity. You’ll build extensible infrastructure and create processes for ensuring the Veracity of data at all points throughout the system, enabling both our team and our customers to perform continuous data validation.”

It will be interesting to see what comes out of this and whether it will have any connection with the cloud. Microsoft have been long stating that they can play with various parameters and change things dynamically. Perhaps this is one step towards that. What are your thoughts on this software listing and how this BI [Business Intelligence] will influence the future of the Xbox One?
