HOWRAH: Probing the death of Akash Agarwal, a first year B Pharm student of Calcutta Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology (CIPT) in Howrah’s Uluberia on Friday night, police arrested four students of Calcutta Institute of Technology (CIT), located on the same campus, on Sunday. Akash (20), a resident of Bihar’s Gaya, was found dead on the rail tracks near Uluberia station.
The four students — Omar Warshi, Tahir Abbas Khan, Ishad Qureshi and Murtaza Hyder Peni — are residents of Anantnag in J&K and have been arrested after Akash’s father lodged a complaint alleging that his son was ragged and forced to commit suicide.
All of them are third year students of CIT. The CIT college authorities have, meanwhile, expelled five students, including the four who have been arrested. SDPO of Uluberia, Shyamal Samanta, said, “Four students have been arrested.”
A teacher said the four had physically assaulted Akash on Friday afternoon when he was talking to another student of the college. Later, Akash took a bicycle from a student and left the campus.
