Castleford care home stabbing victim appeal

A woman who was stabbed in the arm when an intruder forced his way into a Castleford care home kitchen has appealed for help to find her attacker.

Christine Pygott, 67, was attacked with a pen knife at the Beeches Care Home, in Ferrybridge Road, on Saturday.

West Yorkshire Police described Mrs Pygott's attacker as a "dangerous individual".

Two men aged 25 and 28 who were arrested on suspicion of assault have been released on bail.

Appealing for help to trace her attacker, Mrs Pygott said: "If someone knows who did this, they need to give him up.

"They should just give him up before he does some real damage, as he is very dangerous. What he has done is just not right."

Mrs Pygott was in the kitchen area of the care home when she heard a sound at the back door at about 06:15 BST.

She opened it to investigate and was confronted by a man who pushed his way in and assaulted her.

Officers have released an e-fit image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

It is believed the attack is linked to an incident at a nearby care home 20 minutes before the assault, where a member of staff confronted two men in the grounds.

Police are also keen to trace two men captured on CCTV near the Beeches Care Home.

Det Sup Nick Wallen said the footage showed the men removing their jackets while running along Ferrybridge Road towards the town centre.

He said further footage showed what he believe was the same two men on Healdfield Road running towards the Airedale estate.

"I would ask anyone who might have seen those individuals at around 06:40 to 06:45 on Saturday morning and thought they looked suspicious to let us know," he said.
