SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The girlfriend of the Oneida County man killed Sunday night by an alleged drunk driver outside Destiny USA has been released from the hospital.

Amanda Pawlikowski, 18, was released from Upstate University Hospital on Wednesday, the hospital confirmed this morning.

She had been in serious condition since the Sunday night crash that killed 19-year-old Kane Buss. The couple were leaving the mall after having dinner at the Cheesecake Factory when they were T-boned by a pickup truck at the intersection of Hiawatha Boulevard West and Solar Street. Buss and Pawlikowski were taken to Upstate University Hospital, where Buss was later pronounced dead.

Buss, whose step-grandmother said he wanted to become a state trooper, was made an honorary police officer by the Oneida Police Department. The department presented Buss' family with patches, a badge and a plaque signed by Chief David Meeker, BigFrog104 reported.

The plaque reads: 'Kane's dedication in pursuing a career in law enforcement was evident by the efforts he put forth in school, the community, ride along with Oneida City Police and by the type of person he was. His desire to help and look out for others are traits that make a good police officer. His passing is a loss not only to his family and friends, but also the community he would have served.' (A photo of the plaque, patches and badge can be seen at BigFrog104's website.)

Leonard Glowacki

The driver of the pickup truck, 38-year-old Leonard Glowacki, of 232 Columbus Ave., Syracuse, has been charged with first-degree vehicular manslaughter, felony driving while intoxicated, aggravated vehicular assault and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He also has traffic tickets for misdemeanor DWI, reckless driving, using a forged certificate of inspection, driving without a license, running a red light and driving an uninspected vehicle.

Glowacki, convicted of DWI in 2010 and arrested on a second DWI charge in 2014, remains in the Onondaga County Justice Center on $500,000 bond.
