Microsemi, Rambus Link In Cryptography Deal

Aliso Viejo-based Microsemi has linked up with Rambus, in a deal where Microsemi will resell advanced security technologies from Rambus into the government and military market. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. The two said the deal covers certain differential power analysis (DPA) technologies developed by Rambus in its Cryptography Research division, plus AES cryptogrpahic cores. Differential power analysis (DPA) apparently is being used by attackers to determine the cryptography keys by analyzing the power usage of a smart card or chip, and deriving the key from repeated analysis of those devices. Microsemi said that DPA is a "significant" vulnerability in chip security, and specifically a threat in the government and military area.
