Kansas City Southern KSU is up about 1 percent after reporting record revenues of $678 million.
Top line strength was driven by a 4 percent increase in carloads over the year ago quarter. This flowed through to the bottom line driving operating Income up 15 percent year over year and causing EPS to jump 17 percent to $1.29.
The categories driving the top line were Automotive, which jumped 28 percent and Consumer Products which climbed 13 percent. Revenue from Energy declined by 4 percent as coal and frac sand shipments declined substantially.
