A postgraduate girl student of Andhra University threw acid on a lecturer outside his college in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district on Saturday for allegedly cheating on her and marrying someone else.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon outside the government polytechnic college gate at Nallapadu, Guntur where the girl Soujanya, wearing burqa to conceal her identity, threw acid on lecturer Venkatramana's face.

"Wearing 'burqua' to hide her identity, Soujanya waited at the gate of the government polytechnic college at Nallapadu, where Venkataramana is a lecturer and threw acid on him when he came out during lunch hour," Guntur (South) DSP K Narasimha told PTI.

When the lecturer held Soujanya's hand to resist, few drops of the acid fell on the girl's cheek as well. Both were admitted to a hospital.

Soujanya met Venkataramana while studying in a degree college in Narasaraopet, where the latter was a lecturer. It was then that both had developed intimacy and Venkataramana promised to marry her, the girl claimed.

However, Venkataramana married someone else when he shifted to Nallapadu while Soujanya moved to Visakhapatnam to pursue her post graduation in Andhra University.

"Venkataramana got married to another woman last year, and he was avoiding Soujanya," said Narasimha.
