Spruce Grove RCMP said a number of charges had been laid against a local man, after investigators executed a search warrant and found a sawed-off shotgun.

Police said on October 15, officers executed a search warrant and searched a Spruce Grove home – arresting Michael Thomas Nelson, 21, on warrants connected to an incident from the summer.

RCMP said in June of this year, its alleged Nelson tasered a man at a Spruce Grove home, seven charges were laid against him including three counts of assault with a weapon, and two counts each of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and breach of conditions.

After the search, officers found two knives, 15 live shotgun rounds and a ‘sawed-off’ shotgun.

Now, Nelson is facing a number of other charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, another charge of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and two more counts of breach of conditions for the weapons found.

RCMP said Nelson remains in custody, and he’s expected to appear in a Stony Plain courtroom on Wednesday, October 22.
