Unum Group Q2 Results Top Estimates

Unum Group (UNM) reported net income for the second quarter of $242.5 million or $0.94 per share, compared to $218.6 million or $0.82 per share for the year-ago quarter.

Excluding items, operating earnings for the second quarter were $234.8 million or $0.91 per share, compared to $218.5 million or $0.82 per share in the second quarter of 2013.

Operating revenue for the second quarter grew to $2.63 billion from $2.59 billion a year ago.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.87 per share on revenue of $2.61 billion for the second quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

The company said it expects earnings per share growth for full-year 2014 to be in the range announced in December 2013 of 5% to 10%.
