MASTEC launches pisciculture project

IMPHAL, October 31: The Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC-ICAR) today launched a project on Pisciculture and its allied activities for socio-economic development of Manipur at Manipur science Aquarium, DM College campus.

Critical inputs such as water pump set, fish feed, oil cake lime were also distributed to 11 beneficiaries from six districts of the State during the function.

Speaking as the chief guest of the function, MASTEC director Th Surendranath said as in the case of humans, it is also necessary for the people to properly check on the health maintenance of their domestic animals and all other living organisms. Fish is no exception he said.

He said MASTEC is launching the project to meet the required fish production in the State. Manipur requires 48 metric tonnes of fish a year but produces only 20-24 metric tonnes annually, he continued.

He said Manipur has a high demand of fish, and it is essential for the fish farmers to understand how to rear fish.

Fishery department scientist A Kullachandra Singh highlighted on the technical aspects of maintaining the fisheries.

Dr L Dinachnadra, Senior scientist officer, MASTEC also attended the function as the president.
