In order to facilitate their city-wide energy conservation project, Sarasota has chosen an award-winning LED based energy-efficient light solution from Sunovia Energy Technologies. The LED lights lower the overall consumption of energy and improve power units in the downtown and tourist areas of the city. The Almed Optics LED lights are produced by Sunovia’s EvoLucia Inc, a lighting division of the company. As part of the energy saving project, around 200 landscape and street lights in Sarasota will be replaced with the LED fixtures.

LED systems are fast becoming a popular choice in ESCO projects, thanks to its reliability, long-lasting life, rugged performance, low maintenance needs and efficient energy sources. The energy service provider Siemens (News - Alert) Building Technologies has also supported the use of the LED systems, stating that they are a highly superior system to the other fixtures on offer to both save energy and provide efficient lighting. Moreover, the EvoLucia SCHX5 Cobra fixture from Sunovia, a prominent type of fixture, also received an award from the Department of Energy as the Best Outdoor Fixture.

In a release, Gary Kreisler from Siemens said that “We've chosen to collaborate with EvoLucia and utilize their award-winning LED technology for our energy-saving project because of their ongoing commitment to LED innovation and product excellence. Having EvoLucia Aimed LED Lighting as part of this project will ensure that we provide the city of Sarasota with the utmost level of LED quality, durability and performance while saving the maximum energy and enhancing the ambiance of Sarasota."

Kelly Krirschner, a former Mayor of Sarasota said, “For the past four years, the City of Sarasota has conscientiously implemented a local procurement policy throughout our organization to ensure we do everything we can to keep tax dollars in our local community by partnering with area firms.  It's exciting to see such forward-thinking companies, like Sunovia, not only be located in our area but also producing such quality, 'green' products that will produce significant savings for Sarasota taxpayers over their lifecycle."

The “green” initiative launched by Sarasota County does not stop with the City of Sarasota project. Reducing energy consumption and costs are a prime focus using the EvoLucia LED lights, which is expected to reduce the consumption of energy in the city by a huge margin of 60 percent.
