SAN ANTONIO, TX FRANCES CAROLYN (NOAH) BALDWIN passed away January 13, 2015 in San Antonio, TX after a brief illness. She had many friends throughout the country, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Frances was born March 22, 1921 in Greensboro, the youngest daughter of Marion Welborn Noah and Elizabeth Jane Lasley. She was cousin of WWII aviation hero Maj. George E. Preddy. Frances (nicknamed 'Doodle Bug') graduated from Greensboro High School in 1939. She and a group of girlfriends from NC moved to Washington, DC in 1941 to work for the War Dept, spending the remainder of WWII working there as a clerical assistant for the Army Chief of Staff. "Fran" and John Thurman Baldwin (of Gaffney, SC) were married in Greensboro on May 14, 1948 at Muir's Chapel Methodist Church. Frannie and Johnny were residents of Bowie, MD for 27 years before retiring to San Antonio in 1993. Fran was a travel agent with Belair Travel in Bowie for 25 years and enjoyed seeing the world with Johnny, spending many wedding anniversaries in various locations around the globe. Fran was preceded in death by her husband, as well as siblings Marguerite Noah Stubbins, Eloise Noah Hunt, Mary Louise Noah Strader, Annie Noah and Charles Walter Noah, all of NC. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Baldwin Nowak of San Antonio; sons John Robert Baldwin of Canterbury, CT and James Walter Baldwin of Palm Bay, FL; grandchildren Leigh Montgomery Baldwin of San Antonio, Nickolas Steven Nowak of Austin, Matthew Noah Baldwin of Canterbury, and Jeanne Lynn Baldwin of Boston, MA; and many nieces and nephews residing in NC and SC. Graveside services are planned for May, 2015 at Greenhill Cemetery in Greensboro. The family wishes to express grateful appreciation to Brookdale Hospice Innovative Senior Care of San Antonio for their kind and loving support, and to University United Methodist Church of San Antonio for their wonderful benevolence through visitations and prayers. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
