Almost a year after a 12-year-old Pleasant Valley, Iowa girl took her own life, her family and friends gathered in her memory.
The event was held Saturday, March 28, 2015 and was the 1st Angel-versary Celebration to remember Morgan Schmidt. The event doubled as a way for her family to thank the community for their support while raising awareness about depression.
Since Morgan’s passing on April 6, 2014, the Schmidt family created a non-profit corporation called “It’s All Love, Only Love, Coalition Inc.” The organization is aimed at educating parents about suicide prevention.
“It’s a safer world when its okay to be human,” said Morgan’s mother Christine Schmidt, “and being depressed and having anxiety is just as human as anything else and it can feel very isolating and lonely if you think you’re the only one.”
