Apple Teams Up with (RED) for AIDS Fundraising

Apple Inc. and (RED), the charity founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver in 2006, have teamed up once again in the spirit of the World AIDS Day to raise funds for a variety of programs in Africa. The Cupertino giant will provide its users with a series of special promotions in the next two weeks on its apps and products, specially marked with (RED), TheNextWeb reports.

Starting today and until December 1st the Apple App Store will have a special section called Apps for (RED), which will include special and exclusive (RED)-themed content. All the proceedings generated through these apps will go directly to Global Fund to fight AIDS. Popular apps like Rayman Fiesta, Threes!, GarageBang, and established brands like Angry Birds and Minion Rush will get the (RED) treatment. Besides, Apple will offer its customers the possibility to purchase a special (RED) themed gift card, donating a percentage of the amount spent by them to the same Global Fund. The gift card can be used to purchase specific items on November 28 (Black Friday). Speaking of Black Friday – Apple is also raising funds for the charity during the largest shopping event of the year. All sales – retail and online – will contribute to the amount donated to the Global Fund, to help fight against this preventable, treatable, but still deadly disease.

Apple and (RED) have been collaborating since the charity’s founding, in 2006. Since the first of their common actions Apple has raised over $75 million for the cause. Although these actions get most of the attention during special promotional events, buyers can purchase (RED) themed products all year long. The products include various iPod models, smart covers for Apple’s tablet computers, and – through red.org’s online store – a series of products from many other manufacturers that support the cause of helping a new generation be born without this dangerous disease.
