TJX Corp To Increase Employees' Hourly Wage to $9 by June

The Framingham-based company, who owns TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Home Goods, said it will increase its hourly wage nationally to $10 in 2016.

Framingham-based TJX Corp said yesterday, it plans to increase the hourly wage for its employees nationally, to $9 per hour, starting in June.

They are the second major company to announce an increase to employees wages this year. Wal-mart was the first.

TJX Corp, who owns TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Home Goods, said it will increase the hourly wage to $10 in 2016 for U.S. employees who have been employed for at least six months.

The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. It has not increased since 2009.

The current Massachusetts minimum wage is $9 an hour, which went into effect on January 1 of this year. By 2017, Massachusetts will require employees to adhere to a minimum wage of $11 an hour - the highest in the nation.

President Obama has proposed raising the minimum wage to $10.00 an hour, but Congress has rejected the idea.

“At TJX, we attribute our success over the last 38 years primarily to the people we have hired who have remained focused on our mission of delivering consumers amazing values,” CEO Carol Meyrowitz said in the company’s earnings statement.

“This pay initiative is an important part of our strategies to continue attracting and retaining the best talent in order to deliver a great shopping experience for our customers, remain competitive on wages in our U.S. markets, and stay focused on our value mission.”
