CLAY, N.Y. -- A 31-year-old woman is accused of robbing a gas station at gunpoint Wednesday, fleeing and later being caught near her home, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office said.

Utika E. Stroman, of 115 Rosewood Drive, Liverpool, was charged with felony first-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

At about 9:55 a.m. deputies were called to the Sunshine Sunoco gas station at 7549 Oswego Road in Clay for a reported robbery. A woman entered the gas station, showed a handgun and demanded money from the clerk, Detective Jon Seeber, a sheriff's office spokesman, said.

The woman stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register before running off. The clerk was not hurt, Seeber said.

The stolen cash and handgun used in the robbery were recovered.

Stroman was arraigned Wednesday night in Salina Town Court. Judge Judge Andrew Piraino ordered Stroman held at the Onondaga County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.

The Liverpool Central School District briefly placed Elmcrest Elementary School on lockdown while deputies searched for the robbery suspect.
