Cheese, laptop thefts thwarted, say police

On September 28th it is alleged 49 year old Frank Caicco of Cooper Street was in Shoppers Drug Mart in the Cambrian Mall attempting to steal a laptop computer but was thwarted by a store employee, at which time he left the store.

On the 30th of September it is alleged Mr.Caicco was in the Metro Store on Second Line West when he attempted to steal a brick of cheese, but once again was stopped by store security.

An off duty police officer, who was in the store at the time, recognized Caicco as being wanted on an outstanding warrant and when he was trying to confirm the existence of the warrant, Mr. Caicco [allegedly] fled the store, damaging the exit doors to the parking lot.

A short foot chase by both the security guard and the off duty police officer resulted in the apprehension of the accused after a brief struggle.

On duty officers arrived on the scene to assist and take the accused into custody.

Mr. Caicco has been charged with attempt theft, theft, resist arrest, assault police, assault, mischief, and breaching conditions of a probation order as well as a recognizance.

He will be appearing in bail court on October 1.
