Actor Salman Khan, who is out on bail after being convicted in a 2002 hit-and-run case and whose appeal challenging the verdict is pending before the Bombay high court, was on Tuesday allowed to travel to Dubai for three days.

Khan had moved an application before the court last week seeking prior permission to travel as it was one of the conditions imposed on him while he was granted bail in the case. Khan is to attend the Indo-Arab Bollywood Awards show in Dubai.

While allowing Khan to be out of India from May 27 to May 30, justice Dr Shalini Phansalkar Joshi directed him to furnish details of his travel plan, flight timing and number, address of the place where he will be staying in Dubai and his contact details including mobile number and landline number to the Mumbai Police.

Furthermore, he will also have to inform the Indian consulate in Dubai about his entry and exit and surrender his passport to the police within 12 hours after returning from his trip. The court also told him to submit additional cash security of Rs2 lakh before the trial court prior to leaving the country.

On May 6, Salman was convicted by a sessions court of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced him to five years in jail in the 2002 hit-and-run case. A man was killed and four others were wounded when Khan's Toyota Land Cruiser ran over them while they were asleep on a pavement outside a bakery in Bandra on September 28, 2002.

The high court had on May 8 granted the actor bail and suspended his sentence pending hearing and final disposal of his appeal against conviction.
