(MEDIA GENERAL/WOOD TV) – The cost of baby-sitting far exceeds minimum wage in all states, but a nationwide study shows where baby sitters are paid the most and where they are paid the least.

According to a new study by Care.com, the average baby sitter makes about $13.50 per hour.

However, baby sitters in Grand Rapids, Michigan earn the least, on average about $11.31 per hour. The most expensive city is San Francisco where a baby sitter can earn $16.55 per hour.

Nearly half of the 1,000 people surveyed for the study said the key factor in hiring a particular sitter was “how much their kids adore him or her.” Only 3 percent said it was about how much she or he charged.
