When is too much storage, too much storage? Well, considering that there’s oodles and oodles of the stuff up in the Cloud the phrase “never enough” comes to mind. Cloud storage isn’t a possibility to everyone of course, due to security concerns, as well as poor data coverage and scant data allowances. In emerging markets like India and more established ones like China, with extremely poor coverage, Cloud storage just isn’t viable. That’s why it’s a good job that folks like SanDisk are still producing some of the best value microSD cards available. Recently, 128GB microSD cards became a reality for everyone as smartphones started to support them, but now the 200GB microSD card is finally here.

For the low, low price of $239 – with free shipping! – you can now get more storage than the average laptop from five or so years ago, in a piece of plastic no larger than a thumbnail. It’s a Class 10 microSD XC card with read speeds of 90 mbps, which is pretty decent. Let’s not beat about the bush, this is an expensive microSD card and not everyone will even be able to take advantage of this sort of storage. Still, it does come with an adaptor, allowing you to throw this in your camera or laptop’s SD card slot. For those looking for something else, there are 128GB and 64GB cards available that won’t break the bank, but to think we have this amount of storage in something so small is pretty crazy.

To put things in perspective, the majority of higher-end smartphones ship with 16 or 32GB of storage, with a 200GB card like this, you’re looking at 10 times the amount of storage in a 16GB smartphone, even more if you count the Android OS and pre-installed apps swallowing space. If nothing else, this sort of thing is just downright cool, and while it might be a year or more before the majority of devices can take advantage of such cards, we’re willing to wait.
