Medtronic's international attention is on Ireland right now, but the Minnesota medical-device manufacturer has had overseas operations for decades.

Fridley-based Medtronic's second-largest assembly plant is in Tijuana, where about 4,000 workers make stent grafts, catheters and human heart-valve replacements.

Bloomberg photographer David Maung visited the facility Monday. View a gallery of his photos here.

Medtronic has been in Mexico since 1970 and also has operations in Mexico City. The company is in more than 140 other countries on every continent except Antarctica.

Medical-device companies will see growing opportunities in Latin America in the next five years as consumer spending power increases, Jim Hogan, president of Medtronic Latin America, said earlier this month.
