Carndonagh deaths: Man charged with his parents' murders in County Donegal

A man has been charged with the murders of his elderly parents in County Donegal.
Jimmy and Kathleen Cuddihy, who were in their 70s, were found dead in their home just outside Carndonagh after 09:00 BST on Thursday.
Julian Cuddihy, 42, of Churchtown, Carndonagh, appeared at a special sitting of Ballyshannon district court on Friday evening.
Police told the court they had charged Mr Cuddihy with two counts of murder.
Mr Cuddihy was remanded in custody to appear at a special sitting of Letterkenny district court next Wednesday.
His solicitor asked Judge Kevin Kilrane that his client receive immediate psychiatric assessment at Castlerea Prison.
Judge Kilrane asked if Mr Cuddihy had a history of mental illness. He was told that a local doctor had attended Mr Cuddihy on 15 October but he was not psychiatric assessed.
The court also heard that previously no diagnosis of mental illness had been made.
Judge Kilrane then recommended that the accused be assessed as soon as possible.
Free legal aid was also granted in the case.
The victims had four children and had been living in Carndonagh since the 1960s.
Mr Cuddihy was a retired schoolteacher who was originally from Kilkenny, and Mrs Cuddihy was a retired nurse.
