Guards injured as gang attacks Sigona Golf Club, steals and vandalises property

A gang attacked the high-profile Sigona Golf Club on Thursday night after accessing the facility through the perimeter fence.

Night guards at the golf club situated in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, were caught unawares.

The gang beat them using crude weapons before they stole and vandalised property.

Some of the guards sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Those injured were taken for treatment to PCEA Kikuyu Hospital in Kiambu and Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.

No work was going on at the club on Friday morning after the night theft.

Staff were kept outside for hours as the investigating officers dusted the scene for finger prints and took pictures of broken padlocks and damaged property.

Sigona Golf Club manager John Karanja said the police from the criminal investigation department and scene-of-crime officers were combing the club for evidence.

CCTV CAMERAS VANDALISED

CCTV cameras were vandalised, with furniture and other valuables strewn on the floor. It was not revealed how much money or the value of the valuables the gang stole.

One of the guards at the club, who spoke to the press confidentially, said the gang entered the club through the fence.

The club is situated on a 250-acre piece of land.

Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweo confirmed the incident and said a team of investigating officers were following up on the incident and collecting evidence.

The golf club is among the most prestigious venues in the country.
