Cherry Hill East grad nabs scholarship

CHERRY HILL – Recent Cherry Hill East High School graduate Luke Bonanni was awarded NRG Energy’s Cosgrove Scholarship, which will go toward his college education.

Bonanni, one of four students selected nationwide for the $60,000 scholarship, gained the award based on his outstanding academic achievements and activities outside the classroom.

Bonanni, who will attend Johns Hopkins University to pursue science and economics, was the founder of East’s Economics and Investing clubs and won numerous academic awards, including first place in the Coriell Institute Science Fair for a study he conducted that looked at the effects of fracking and how to minimize its impacts on tap water.

He was also a member of the first place regional team in the University of North Carolina’s National High School Ethics Bowl. They won for their work on an ethics case focusing on a morally complex situation.

Bonanni participated in DECA, Research in Science and did volunteer work at the Cherry Hill Food Bank as well as a nursing home and middle schools.
