Martha Stewart Hits Highs and Lows in Gwyneth Paltrow Feud
News broke this week of the latest battle in the growing Martha Stewart–Gwyneth Paltrow lifestyle war. Stewart’s recent shot at the fellow Hamptonite and goop goddess—a goof about her “conscious uncoupling” divorce to Chris Martin—can be found in the November 2014 issue of Martha Stewart Living. Look at page 116 for the quite-consciously-titled spread “Conscious Coupling.”
Below its “Conscious Coupling” title, the magazine spread features a photograph of a scrumptious looking pie a la mode and the following:
Every Thanksgiving table should be blessed with the presence of a long-married pair who bring out the best in each other, are completely enamored despite their differences, and leave every other guest thinking,I’ll have what they’re having. Our holiday pies honor such partnerships, each spotlighting the perfect marriage of crust and filling so there’s a pleasant mix of textures and flavors in every bite. No matter how you slice these irresistible desserts, there is a whole lot to love.
Is it totally vicious? No, but it certainly put the Stewart-Paltrow lifestyle queen feud back in the headlines.
It may not be a coincidence that around the time Stewart’s jab hit news stands, the CEO of her Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia company, Lisa Gersh, left to lead her rival’s “goop” lifestyle brand, and nearly 50 employees of Stewart’s company were laid off on Wednesday.
In more positive news for Stewart, CNBC reported on Wednesday that Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia has entered into a 10-year deal with the Meredith marketing firm, which will now handle the company’s ad sales, circulation and production of Stewart’s magazines. The move sent Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia stock up 25 percent in a late-day surge.
Lifestyle queen title? Still up for grabs.
