Kansas City archbishop to speak in Topeka next week

A special event for young Catholics will take place next week in Topeka.

The event, titled “Trust One Greater,” will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 S.W. 25th.

The Most Rev. Joseph Naumann, archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, will be the special speaker.

¦ Maziar Bahari’s new documentary film, “To Light a Candle,” will be shown at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 S.W. 10th. The film, which organizers say is of “vital interest” to Baha’i’s in Topeka and Shawnee County, will serve as the launch of the international “Education is Not a Crime” campaign. After the film a panel, composed of Shahin Ighani, a former student of this effort, and Chris Hamilton, of Washburn University, will answer questions and provide a personal perspective on the film’s subject.

¦ The Flint Hills Chorus and Chamber Ensemble will perform Handel’s Messiah for the 24th time at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at First United Methodist Church, 600 Lincoln in Wamego.
