Men’s Hockey

Chase Hollander, a Random Lake native, went 2-0 during the week of January 11-17 as a sophomore goalie for UW-Stout and was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Hockey Player of the Week last week for his efforts.

The Psychology major notched his first collegiate shutout shutout in a 2-0 home win over UW-Superior on Jan. 16, then allowed two early goals in a 3-2 win at UW-Superior the following night to get his first two wins of the season.

The 170-pounder also collected his first career assist.

Against Superior, Hollander stopped nine shots in the first period, 13 in the second and 15 in the third. The Yellowjackets got to Hollander early in the rematch the following night, scoring twice in the opening five minutes.

But, Hollander responded by helping the Blue Devils get on the board, making a pass to Danny Ray who scored a power play goal at the nine minute mark of the first period to cut the lead in half.

Hollander finished the night with 36 saves — 15 saves in the first, 14 in the second and seven in the third, including five power play shots.

The two starts were Hollander’s third and fourth starts of the season, and his first since Nov. 14, as he dropped his season GAA from a 6.92 to a 4.17.

At five-foot-10-inches, Hollander played in five games last season, starting three. He finished 1-2 with a .913 save percentage and 3.01 goals against average.
