STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Native Staten Islander Lee Ann Johnson-Hatfield, 60, of Charlotte, N.C., a dedicated child advocate and pharmacy technician, died Friday in Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Charlotte after a six-year battle with cancer.

Born Lee Ann Johnson in West Brighton, she later lived in Mariners Harbor and Orlando, Fla., before moving to Charlotte nine years ago.

A graduate of Susan Wagner High School, Ms. Johnson-Hatfield was the granddaughter of a preacher.

Ms. Johnson-Hatfield worked as a childcare provider for Staten Island Developmental Disabilities Service for many years, retiring several years ago.

After she moved to North Carolina, she received her associate's degree in pharmacy technology from Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte and worked as a pharmacy technician for two years.

She enjoyed collecting African art, needlepoint, sewing and writing short stories.

Her son, Brandon Lee Allen, died in 2006.

Surviving are her daughter, Terayne Allen; two brothers, Gregory Williams and Belmore (Ricky) Johnson; two sisters, Wanda Williams and Theresa Hagans, and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Stradford Funeral Home, Concord, with a 6 p.m. service in Fellowship Baptist Church, Mariners Harbor. Cremation will be handled by Rosemount Memorial Park in Elizabeth, N.J.
