Judging from a recent post by the internet giant, it looks likely to be called Android Lollipop.
To celebrate its 16th birthday, Google released an image with a cake full of lollies and the wording 'Why do we put candles on cakes?'
Until now the next installment of Google’s operating system has simply been codenamed Android L.
And with the company's Android names following the alphabet, lollipop looks favourite to replace KitKat.
The new operating system could see its official launch early next month and will include improved security and more advanced voice recognition.
It’s likely to be unveiled alongside Google's new Nexus 9 tablet and Nexus 6 smartphone.
Google hasn't updated it's devices since the Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 hit the shops late last year.
Both are rumoured to include better screens, processor and battery life.
It's still unclear who'll make the phone and tablet for Google, but Motorola and HTC are both in the frame.
