Cavaliers forward Shawn Marion did not travel with the team to Detroit so he can undergo an MRI on an injured left hip.

The 36-year-old Marion, who plans to retire following the season, has been slowed by a strained hip for several weeks. He returned to Cleveland following a win Sunday at New York. Marion will have tests performed on Monday while the Cavs prepare to play the Pistons on Tuesday.

Marion’s playing time has dwindled in recent weeks, partly because of the injury. The four-time All-Star began the season in the starting lineup, but the addition of guards J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert has cut into his minutes.

Marion is averaging a career-low 4.9 points in 20 minutes. Although he hasn’t been a major contributor, Marion has been praised by Cavs coach David Blatt for his leadership.
