Investigators are looking for clues as suspicion continues that the businessman was murdered.
Kampala- Mystery into the death of city businessman, Eria Sebunnya Bugembe commonly known as Kasiwukira, continues to unravel even after his burial in Wakiso District yesterday.
The Director of Police Operations, Mr Andrew Felix Kaweesi, said at the burial that people should rule out that the incident was an accident.
“All indications show that it was a well-constructed murder. He was either first hit before he was run over by the car or he was intentionally knocked because all his internal organs were shattered,” he said.
Earlier police said they will record statements from the deceased’s business associates and family members for possible clues that may lead to his killers.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said yesterday the first police team mismanaged the crime scene washing away most of the critical evidence and they have been subjected to an inquiry by the police professional standards unit.
“The first police response failed to manage the scene of crime professionally. They left people to crowd the area and the manner in which the body was handled was inappropriate,” Mr Enanga said. “The Police Professional Standards Unit will supervise investigations into the death of Kasiwukira and also investigate the officers that were initially in charge of the scene of crime,” he added.
The case has now been taken over by the deputy director of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence, Mr Geoffrey Musana, for better management. Mr Enanga also said the scene of crime has been reconstructed to establish its original picture. He said the canine unit couldn’t be used for the initial failure to manage the scene.
“We shall interview Kasiwukira’s family members and business associates about his days toward his demise,” he said.
Kasiwukira was run over by a car as he was jogging in Muyenga last Friday morning which car is alleged to have sped off after.
The post-mortem
A post-mortem report on Kasiwukira’s body, shows he was hit by a moving object which forced him to fall down. The report also revealed the deceased’s liver was ruptured, with ribs, spinal cord broken and that he had internal and external injuries, escalating beliefs that he was knocked by a vehicle.
