Notes on writers, authors and Minnesota-based books.

LITTLE FALLS – The Morrison County Historical Society is hosting an event about industrialist Frederick Weyerhaeuser that will feature an author of a book about him.

Weyerhaeuser founded what is now known as the Weyerhaeuser Co. The Pine Tree Lumber Co. in Little Falls was an important part of the Weyerhaeuser empire, according to Morrison County Historical Society. It operated from 1890 to about 1920 and was a major employer in the area. His son Charles managed Pine Tree Lumber.

The book talk will be from 2-4 p.m. April 17 at the Little Falls Carnegie Library, 108 Third St. NE. Judith Koll Healey, author of "Frederick Weyerhaeuser and the American West," will speak. Her talk is free and open to the public; she will be available to sign books afterward. Her book can be purchased at the event.

Because of the day's events, The Charles A. Weyerhaeuser Memorial Museum will be closed to the public April 17. It will be open regular hours the rest of the week. For information, call 320-632-4007.
