Quest Diagnostics and Madison mayor team up for annual charity softball game

Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX), the world's leading provider of diagnostic information services, will host Madison Mayor Bob Conley and the Borough of Madison’s team at its annual charity softball game on Oct. 9, at 5 p.m., at Dodge Field in Madison.

The two teams are playing to raise money for the American Cancer Society and local nonprofit Project Community Pride. Admission is free, and music will be provided by local band Group Therapy lead by Madison’s own Mark Fabyanski. Families and other members of the community can take part in activities for a variety of prizes throughout the game and help themselves to a healthy barbecue buffet in return for a $5 donation to support the charities. There will be special games for children during the seventh inning stretch.

“I encouraged Mayor Conley to line up his best sluggers and fielders for the annual softball game because I guarantee Quest Diagnostics will have on our rally caps,” said Steve Rusckowski, CEO and president of Quest Diagnostics. “We are playing for two great charities which means no matter the outcome, the real home runs will be in benefiting these important organizations.”

“We have a great community in Madison and a ready stable of all-stars from the Borough of Madison’s staff,” said Mayor Conley. “I hope everyone in Madison will join us for some music, food, and softball in support of some great causes.”

The QuestCares Annual Charity Softball Game, now in its 6th year, was the founding place for the Chief Executive Council for Madison (CECM). Created by Quest Diagnostics CEO Steve Rusckowski along with Madison Mayor Bob Conley and former Drew University President Dr. Vivian A. Bull, CECM brings together senior leaders from government, business and academia for collective impact. Executives living and working in the town come together to network, share ideas, and foster the next generation of Madison leaders.

Over the course of three years, Quest Diagnostics employees have raised more than $5 million for their employee-elected charity, The American Cancer Society. In partnership with the Madison community, more than $26,000 has been raised through the annual softball games, benefiting the society as well as community-based nonprofits.

This year’s community-based beneficiary, Project Community Pride, is a local nonprofit agency that serves the families of Madison, Florham Park, and Chatham Borough providing at-risk youth and local families with clinical mental health services including individual and group therapy. The American Cancer Society is the Quest Diagnostics employee-elected charity and the largest volunteer health organization in the nation.

Project Community Pride of the Madison Area YMCA, a local youth counseling program, is a community-based program of the Madison Area YMCA. The program is an extension of youth development services for children, teens and their families throughout the Madison Area YMCA's service area that was made possible through the collaboration of community leaders and a new partnership with the municipalities and School Districts of the Chathams, Florham Park and Madison. www.madisonareaymca.org.
