8th All India Holy Quran competition opens at Jamia Islamiya Akkalkuwa

Rector of Jamia Islamiya Asha'atul Uloom Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi Friday inaugurated the 8th All India Quran memorisation and recitation competition at Jamia Islamiya College of Engineering and Polytechnic in Akkalkuwa.

A total of 274 contestants from 23 Indian states had qualified for this unique competition organised after every three years since 1994. A total of 3148 contestants from 1400 Madaris had participated in the qualifying rounds held in 26 states.

On the occasion of this three-day Holy Quran contest, Jamia Islamiya College of Engineering and Polytechnic building has been named as 'Wadi-e-Quran', and the entire Jamia Akkalkuwa campus has been decorated.

The contest is slated to conclude Sunday with a prize distribution ceremony. Dr. Abdullah Ibn Ali Basfar, famous reciter and imam from the Saudi Arabia who rose to prominence in Jeddah as an Imam and a reciter during the Ramadan Qur'an Recitation nights, will handover the prizes to the winners.

The Judges for this contest are: Sheikh Moosa Bilal Maniyar Makki, Sheikh Talha Bilal Maniyar Makki and Qari Riyaz Ahmed Mazahri of Nadwatul Ulema.

Sheikh Moosa Bilal Maniyar Makki also led over five thousand people for the Friday prayers at 'Masjid Maimani'.

Earlier, while inaugurating the contest, Rector of Jamia Akkalkuwa Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi said that the secret of success for Muslims is actually 'no secret'.

"It is unity and Quran which will lead the Muslims to success", he said in his inaugural address.
