Michigan school mourns loss of students killed in car crash

AP

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — The men's basketball team at Eastern Michigan University has honored two students who were killed in a car accident over the weekend.

A moment of silence was held Tuesday before a game against Ohio University to mourn the loss of women's basketball player Shannise Heady and Eastern Michigan senior Jordan Hopkins. The two students died Sunday morning after Heady lost control of her vehicle in Ypsilanti (ihp-sih-LAN'-tee) Township and crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

Fans in the student section wore T-shirts and players wore sweatbands honoring Heady with her No. 32.

The Ann Arbor News (http://bit.ly/1z9kRCa ) reports the team also planned to wear jerseys embroidered with Heady's number, but they weren't ready in time for the game.

The women's team will hold a moment of silence before a game at Western Michigan University on Wednesday.
