Less robberies over past week —PNP

There were less robberies and thefts in Metro Manila over the past week, the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) said on Wednesday.

According to the directorate, for the period covering Feb. 23 to March 1, robbery and theft went down by 20 incidents to 390 incidents compared to 410 the previous week, Feb. 16 to 22.

It added that from Jan. 26 to Feb. 22, the robbery and theft trend in NCR was 63 incidents lower compared with the past four-week average.

"Most significant decrease in robbery and theft cases was posted in the Northern Police District where crime data showed 13 fewer cases than the previous week’s average. It was noted that in Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela, robbery and theft cases all went down to only eight, two and five incidents, respectively," the PNP said in a statement.

Likewise, most significant is the decrease in Makati City, covered by Southern Police District that posted only incidents from an average of 14 robbery and theft cases, it added.

According to the statement, Makati has always been among the top three stations with the highest incidence of robbery and theft, and with a possibility of aberration, "this decrease of incidents is the lowest recorded since last year."

Meanwhile, Carnapping went down by 11 incidents this week compared to 19 recorded incidents last February 2 to 8, 2015.

The PNP said that the crime data used in the report was based on the validation of crime statistics conducted by DIDM among the 38 police stations and five police districts in Metro Manila. —Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
